This course is perfect for anyone wanting to give soundbaths and/ or gongbaths to groups.

This course is perfect for anyone wanting to deliver relaxation sessions in the form of soundbaths and/or gongbaths only. During the course we will be working with Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls and gong. Therapeutic percussion will be used to bring people gently back from a meditative state.

This course is particularly suited to anyone dipping into therapeutic sound for the first time.

A blended learning option with a face to face module is available for this course if you prefer. For information on studying remotely, request a prospectus.

Distance Learning Option


  • Exploring our growing body of research as well as neuroscience and the psychology of sound
  • Exploring the ‘sound signature’ of each different instrument and how and why it affects us in certain ways
  • Discovering the application of sound to maximise relaxation Playing techniques for the Himalayan and crystal singing bowls and gong
  • How to write a ‘gongscore’ (a composition for your gongbath)
  • Creating stillness and emotion with your crystal bowls – how each interval affects mind, body and emotions in different ways
  • Transitioning between instruments – enjoying the ‘bridging’ places
  • Musicality, ebb and flow – making your session ‘live’
  • Reflective practice – the 5Rs method of experiential processing – a way to understand ourselves more deeply

Course Modules & Timeline

Equipment Webinar – March 2021

  • Videos and presentations introduce the instruments (Himalayan bowls, gong, crystal singing bowls and therapeutic percussion)
  • Choose the best instruments to suit your needs – help will be provided
  • Playing technique tutorials will get you started and practising at home

Foundation Module – March 2021

  • An online course to take before the virtual classroom
  • Explore current research in sound and music psychology and neuroscience to support how and why sound can be so effective at improving health and wellbeing
  • Quizzes and interactive exercises help you check your understanding and deepen your knowledge

Virtual Classroom 1 14th – 16th April 2021

  • We will unpack the BAST Method of Sound Relaxation Therapy in more depth in the comfort of your home
  • Take part in experiential exercises and small group sessions Practise playing techniques and experience sound-bath sessions
  • Understand how different instruments affect mind, body and emotions in different ways
  • Discuss the application of the instruments and techniques in more depth

9.30am – 2pm plus 1-2 hours in the afternoon/evening in your own time

Distance Learning with your chosen instruments – March – September 2021

  • Embark on a wonderful journey with your instruments
  • Articles, quizzes, coursework exercises and training videos deepen your learning
  • Coursework is estimated to take between 2 – 3 hours a week
  • Practise different types of soundbath and/or gongbath – videos and tutorials help support you with this process

Virtual Classroom 2 – 16th – 17th September 2021

  • Exploring the practical sessions in more depth
  • Hypothetical case studies are explored and discussed in smaller group sessions
  • Learn how to transition between your instruments and create ebb and flow
  • Prepare for the practical assessment

9.30am – 2pm plus 1-2 hours in the afternoon/evening in your own time

Practical Assessment – October 2021

  • Send in a video of you giving your session(s)
  • Your own personal tutor will give you feedback, support and guidance

Case Studies & Research Project

  • Take 6 – 9 months to complete your case studies
  • Gain valuable experience whilst being supported by BAST
  • Webinars help you through this rewarding part of your learning journey
  • Join your peers and mentor for the research webinar

Qualify!
