The Arts for Health and Wellbeing field is a rapidly growing area of healthcare. The BAST Method of sound and voice-arts therapy course features a range of different group activities such as soundscapes, vocal games, drum circles, sonic and vocal improvisation, performance and so much more. If you see yourself working in a dynamic and creative way with sound or voice as a therapeutic art-form, we recommend this course.

As well as a range of different vocal exercises, warm-ups and games, we will explore many different instruments including drums, chimes, percussion, tonal instruments such as gongs, Himalayan singing bowls and much more.

We have divided this course and you can now take only the voice element or the sound arts element. Course dates will remain the same, but your onwards journey from the intensive module will take you whichever pathway you choose.

  • Explore the therapeutic benefits of community music making and improvisation
  • Discover the ‘sonic colours’ of the instruments you will be working with as you go through this course
  • Deepen your self-awareness using the 7Rs Method of reflective practice
  • Explore the therapeutic benefits of a variety of soundscapes and voicescapes
  • Compare and contrast different sessions for a variety of intended therapeutic outcomes
  • Experience rhythm games and drum circle facilitation
  • Explore the use of graphic scores for sonic – art and therapy
  • Understand how different instruments affect mind, body and emotions in different ways

Virtual Classroom 1 - 28th-31st March 2023 - 9.30am - 2.00pm 

  • Unpack the BAST Method of Group Sound and Voice Arts Therapy in more depth in the comfort of your home
  • Take part in experiential exercises and small group sessions
  • Enjoy immersing yourself in sound sessions
  • Explore the sound signatures of the different instruments and discuss how and why they move mind body and emotions in different ways
  • Discuss therapeutic application in different settings and for different conditions
  • Understand more about the transformative nature of sound arts & voice arts
  • Explore current research in the field, including sound psychology and neuroscience to support how and why the arts can be so effective at improving health and wellbeing

    Virtual Classroom 2 - 5th May 2023 - 9.30am - 11.00am - Coursework check-in

    • During this session we will check all is well with your coursework and answer any questions you may have
    • We will check playing techniques
    • Have a valuable Q&A session with your tutors

    Virtual Classroom 3 - 23rd June 2023 - 9.30am - 11.00am

    • A final check-in before your in class module

    In-class Intensive Module 1 - 8th - 9th July 2023 9.30am - 6.00pm 

    • Put together what you’ve learned with your peers
    • Get in-class support from the tutor team
    • Gain confidence and experience with your instruments
    • Discuss therapeutic application of the techniques and instruments

    Qualify!

    • On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a Professional Diploma in Group Sound and Voice Arts Therapy
    • You can achieve a ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’
